The Trauma Center at Penn is a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, based at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Accredited as a trauma center since 1987, the center is a leader both regionally, nationally, and internationally in the care of the injured patient. Currently, the center serves as a quaternary hospital for injured patients within southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Our aeromedical service, PennSTAR flight supports the region with 6 aircraft strategically placed to cover 11 counties in Pennsylvania and most of New Jersey and Delaware. Core to our mission is the continuous training and education of future clinicians and leaders in trauma care. We are a widely recognized academic program, based on clinical excellence, scientific contributions, and fellowship training. Through our international programs, we continue to educate professionals from around the world including Europe, Asia, and South America. Our faculty have a strong link to the US and NATO Military Medical programs. Of over 100 surgeons completing the fellowship, 20 have been military surgeons, who after training have been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. Finally, our injury prevention programs are focused on the needs of our community and include the Injury Center at Penn and the Penn Interdisciplinary Center for Injury Science (PICIS).
